Perpetual Profession in Canada

On 8 September 2019 two of our brothers from the Region Cardinal Émile Biayenda of Congo Brazzaville committed themselves definitively to the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament during the 11 o’clock Mass in the church of St André de Neufchâtel at Quebec, Canada. These brothers were Chancelin Delphin Kifoueti sss and Jean Aurélien Placide Nzitoukoulou sss.

Prof perp 2The eucharistic celebration was presided by Father Ghislain Cossette sss, Superior of the Province of St Jean-Baptiste of Canada, assisted by Father Camille Gagnon sss, Superior of the Province of St Jean XXIII, Fathers Loyola Gagné sss, René Pothier sss, Jean-Marc Raymond sss and the Abbé Benoît Gingras, vicar of the parish of St Ambroise.

In his homily, Father Ghislain sss recalled the conditions that Jesus set out for being his disciple. This is to go unto the end, to be ready to leave all and prefer him to everything. To become truly a disciple of Jesus is to assume an attitude of total abandonment. After responding ‘yes’ to these conditions we can progressively learn to become faithful not in virtue of our strength but thanks to Jesus who calls us. Our saying ‘yes’ enables us to discover our weakness without stopping there.

After the homily in front of the priests and religious confreres of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, in the presence of the Sister Servants of the Blessed Sacrament and the whole Christian community, brothers Chancelin and Aurélien pronounced the three vows of chastity in the celibate state, evangelical poverty, and obedience.

At the end of the Mass, the newly perpetually professed expressed their joy and gratitude to the two Councils, provincial and regional, for having considered them worthy of trust. This ceremony closed with a fraternal meal shared in the large parish hall.
